About DAWN
The Detroit Area Womyn's Network is a social group for professional women 30 years of age and older living in the south east Michigan area.
The group held its first gathering in October of 1995. The vision of the group is that it would provide women living in the south eastern Michigan area with an opportunity to meet similar others and to develop friendship and social networks. Monthly gatherings were held at the Lavendar Moon Cafe in Ferndale MI. In addition to the regular gatherings, smaller groups of women got together to pursue common interests including: dining out; pot luck dinners; going to the movies, concerts and cultural events; shopping; playing games and sports, etc. We also had a regular news letter that was sent out to all DAWN members. DAWN continued meeting until the summer of 1997 when the Lavendar Moon closed its doors.
DAWN was revived on September 26th, 2000. We now have over 400 women on our mailing list and have several events planned each month during the fall, winter and spring. Since our members typically are busy with other activities in the summer, we only plan a few activities to occur during this time.
